On their second visit in April, they laid out the first course. The first round of golf was played on Good Friday, April 15, 1892, between Lieutenant William McFarlane and William F. McDonnell, a Limerick businessman, using feathers and sticks to mark the course.

Outside of golf, Lewis is a dedicated sports fan, supporting Chelsea Football Club and regularly attending rugby matches at Murrayfield to cheer on the Scottish national team.
After completing university, Lewis embraced his adventurous spirit, travelling across the globe to destinations such as New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. This marked the ninth time The Open has been played at Troon, where Henrik Stenson famously lifted the Claret Jug after an epic final-round battle with Phil Mickelson—a performance widely regarded as one of the greatest duels in Open history.

Golfers face an added challenge with the prevailing north-westerly wind, which makes the back nine particularly difficult. The history of Prestwick Golf Club dates back over 160 years to a time when golf was still in its infancy. In 1851, a group of 57 founding members who regularly gathered at the Red Lion Inn made the historic decision to form a golf club. They purchased two cottages opposite the tavern to serve as the club’s first base.
Prestwick holds a unique place in golf’s legacy as the birthplace of The Open Championship. A simple stone cairn located to the west of Prestwick’s iconic clubhouse marks the spot where the very first Open Championship tee shot was struck in 1860. On March 7th, 1744, the Edinburgh Town Council made history by presenting a silver club for annual competition to “The Gentleman Golfers”. The course stretches from 5,300 to 6,900 yards but can be extended to a championship-ready 7,600 yards with additional professional tees. This versatility positions Dumbarnie Links as a prime contender for future major tournaments and professional events.
Carnoustie has hosted some of the most memorable moments in golf history. Major champions like Tom Watson, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie, and Francesco Molinari all claimed their first Major victories at Carnoustie. Legendary golfer Ben Hogan famously played in—and won—his only Open Championship here. Although Hogan was initially unimpressed by Carnoustie’s lack of hills and trees, he quickly learned that a links course presents unique challenges. The test lies in its undulating fairways, strategically positioned greens, rough, and pot bunkers, combined with the ever-present Scottish wind.
Known as the toughest of all Open Championship courses, Carnoustie stretches to a formidable 7,421 yards, making it the longest course in the rotation. Stewart Morrison the dynamic Managing Director of Bonnie Wee Golf and cousin to Founder David Harris, is the heartbeat behind the seamless execution of our Bonnie Wee tours.
Stewart’s love affair with golf began during childhood summers spent with David on the golf courses on the Isle of Arran on Scotland’s west coast and other legendary Scottish courses. This shared passion eventually led him to join Bonnie Wee Golf. With a background in hospitality, Stewart brings over 15 years of expertise to Bonnie Wee Golf, guaranteeing each client enjoys a smooth and memorable golfing journey. Stewart will mark his 10 year anniversary with Bonnie Wee later this summer (2024).
When Stewart isn’t crafting golf tours, paying the company bills or keeping the team organised, he thrives on the fast-paced action of squash. You can often find him at the local squash club – on the court or in the bar!
