Heading into the 2023 season..
Scotland was crowned the ‘Best Golf Destination’ in the World and in Europe in November 2022. Naturally, we’re not surprised; we know we have something unique here, and it’s reflected in how busy the tee sheets are for 2023 already. It is not just Scotland that is booming, but Ireland as well.
It’s encouraging to see how many of our clients, both new and repeat, are eager to travel and we can’t wait to curate an exclusive experience for you once again. While it’s a Ryder Cup year and Europe will play host, there is plenty going on here on home turf. The Renaissance Club will host The Genesis Scottish Open 12 – 16 July and Royal Liverpool will stage The Open 16 – 23 July.
2023 is set to be a busy golf season with many of the top links courses in Scotland and Ireland already sold out.
If you plan to go on a golf tour in the future, we recommend starting early. Courses traditionally open their tee sheets for booking around Spring for the following year, occasionally 12 months out, but we advise having your ducks in a row long before that, especially if you’re looking to tick a few bucket list courses off your list.
Here’s a few tips for planning your future golf trip.
- Start planning your 2024 tour early in 2023 so that all of your desired courses can be secured. In particular, this is true if courses such as The Old Course, Royal Dornoch, and Muirfield are included on your wish-list. There are many golf courses in Ireland that require early planning too. This includes Royal County Down, Royal Portrush (Northern Ireland), Ballybunion, Waterville, and Old Head.
- Know when you want to travel and where you want to play
- Know how many golfers are traveling
If you’ve been thinking about a tour in 2024 or beyond, now is the time to get that ball rolling.

The Old Course, St Andrews
2023 // Bonnie Wee Golf Tee Times // SOLD OUT
The unprecedented demand continues on the Old Course, St Andrews but there are still opportunities to try and secure that bucket list tee time! Here’s some ideas as to how…
Plan ahead with the Private Advance Ballot. St Andrews Links Trust operates a Private Advance Tee Time Ballot (lottery). Traditionally there is a two week application period around August for the following year. The application must be made by an individual rather than the tour operator in this instance. The Bonnie Wee Golf team is on hand to curate your exclusive trip to complement your Old Course tee time, if you are successful in your application.
Why not play the New Course or the Castle Course? These are great choices for courses in St Andrews. While you’re in St Andrews, you can enter the 48-hour ballot (lottery). Bonnie Wee Golf can do an application on your behalf when you are in the country.
Find out more about each ballot opportunity below via the St Andrews Links Trust website.
