The UK’s New Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): What You Need to Know
The UK has introduced a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for visa-exempt travellers as part of its digital border transformation. This system resembles the U.S. ESTA, requiring individuals who previously did not need a visa to obtain authorisation. Even those transiting through the UK must apply for an ETA.
Important for golfers:
You do not need an ETA if you are transiting through a UK airport without passing through border control—check with your airline if you are unsure.
However, if you are transiting and need to clear border control, an ETA is required.
Golfers flying into Dublin Airport and continuing by road to Northern Ireland to play golf require an ETA.
