Lahinch Golf Club, located on Ireland’s stunning west coast in County Clare, has a rich history dating back to March 1892 when Alexander Shaw, Richard Plummer, and officers from the Black Watch Regiment discovered the ideal sand dunes for a golf course. On their second visit in April, they laid out the first course. The first round of golf was played on Good Friday, April 15, 1892, between Lieutenant William McFarlane and William F. McDonnell, a Limerick businessman, using feathers and sticks to mark the course.

In 1894, Alexander Shaw invited legendary Scottish golfer Old Tom Morris to redesign the course. Morris placed great emphasis on the natural sandhills, famously declaring Lahinch the “finest natural course he had ever seen.”

Acquired by Doonbeg Golf Club Ltd. in 1999, construction began on the course, designed by legendary golfer Greg Norman. The course officially opened on July 9, 2002, with Greg Norman defeating Padraig Harrington in an exhibition match.
