Here’s what you need to know
So, you’ve chosen to embark on a luxury golf experience with Bonnie Wee Golf – an inspired decision.
The finest courses in Scotland, England, and Ireland await, offering breath-taking landscapes, rich history, and the highest standard of hospitality. Whether you’re playing the hallowed fairways of St Andrews, the dramatic coastal cliffs of Royal County Down, or the timeless elegance of Royal Birkdale, here’s what to expect from your journey and what you’ll need to pack to ensure a seamless, first-class experience.
When you arrive
You will be met by one of the Bonnie Wee team at the airport. Then prepare to tee off on some of the most revered golf courses in the world. Scotland’s historic links, Ireland’s rugged coastlines, and England’s championship fairways each offer a unique and exhilarating challenge. From the rolling dunes of Lahinch to the strategic brilliance of Sunningdale, we want every round to be the ultimate experience for you.
The ever-changing climate
The weather across the UK and Ireland can be as dynamic as the game itself, with the potential for four seasons in a single round. You may start in bright sunshine, encounter a light mist on the back nine, and finish with a fresh coastal breeze. Embracing the elements is part of the adventure, but meticulous preparation ensures you remain comfortable and focused on your game. Be sure to keep your waterproof in your bag – if you don’t need it for the wet weather it will certainly help with the wind chill!
Caddies
Caddies can make or break your game but spending time with true locals is what makes it memorable. We always recommend caddies at the courses. As links golf in Scotland is made for walking – enjoy it, take the help and relish in the good moments.
Beyond the Greens
A Bonnie Wee Golf journey is not just about the golf – it’s about indulging in the very best that Scotland, England, and Ireland have to offer. Enjoy private whisky tastings at world-renowned distilleries, Michelin-starred dining featuring locally sourced delicacies, and exclusive cultural experiences, from historic castle tours to private yacht excursions along the stunning coastlines. Just let us know what you fancy when we have our pre trip calls and we will make this work!
What to Pack
- Waterproofs – Invest in top-quality waterproof gear, including a breathable rain jacket and trousers to ensure comfort in all conditions.
- Layered clothing – A combination of merino wool base layers, cashmere mid-layers, and a windproof pullover will keep you stylish and warm. You’ll be surprised at what you need!
- Golf shoes – Waterproof, well-cushioned golf shoes with excellent grip are essential for navigating the terrain.
- Golf gloves – Carry multiple pairs to ensure a dry, firm grip throughout your round.
- Golf balls – The legendary links demand precision, so bring balls suited to firm conditions and wind play. Ensure there is a good stash of them too and if you run out, no worries, the pro shops have you covered for that!
- Sports jacket – Remember some of the clubhouses often have dress codes, so a well-tailored sports jacket, fine kit and a tie
- Sunglasses & sun cream – we’re not joking, if anything it will protect from the wind burn!
- Travel adaptor & charging banks – don’t be caught short without one!
- Cash – most clubhouses now have ATM machines but be prepared or ask your driver to stop in advance of getting to the course so you are not caught short. Caddies take cash payment!
The main thing is get ready to have fun. We are here to help and ensure you have a seamless and quite frankly awesome experience. If you’re unsure about something, let us know and we will be happy to help!
